Interesting Tagging Site

I like the way they use tagging at 43things, although I haven’t looked closely enough to find out exactly how they’re doing it. I think it could be useful in a library, maybe for finding out what users want most from their library or community and why. It would, at least, be more fun than taking a survey.

If you stumble upon interesting uses of tags/bookmarks, please leave a comment. And, let us know your ideas for applying any of them to libraries.

Librarian Champion of Black History Dies

Librarian champion of black history dies
For four decades librarian Mayme Clayton prowled garage sales, flea markets, attics, used bookstores, even dumps, rescuing thousands of rare and unusual books, movies, sound recordings, and more, much of it dating to the slavery era. With limited funds but boundless determination, she amassed what experts today regard as a valuable and eclectic collection of black Americana. A bit of an eccentric, Clayton piled her treasures in the garage behind her humble California home….

RISD Librarian in CRL News

Check out the “Job of a Lifetime” feature on Claudia Covert in the October 2006 issue of College and Research Library News. The article profiles Claudia’s job as the head of Reader Services at RISD Library,
Claudia Covert

Covert encourages librarians to consider art librarianship. She loves working with visual communities, the meshing of images with text, and the interesting range of people she meets in art librarianhsip.

‘ACRL has the art libraries section and there’s the Art Libraries Society of North America. [There are] some great organizations out there. I would encourage anybody with an interest in art to go this way.’”

Has anyone else had experiences with the ACRL Arts Section? It looks like they are looking for volunteers . . . fill out this form by December 2nd to be considered for committee nomination!!
