Hello All,

I enjoyed meeting many of you in Denver, it was great to meet face to face with ArLiSNAP affiliates and get a better understanding of how the group works. ArLiSNAP is a valuable resource because it provides newcomers to the profession an online space for learning and solidarity. I would like to help keep ArLiSNAP a space of learning by generating discussions on important issues unique to students and new professionals, therefore I announce my candidacy for ArLiSNAP Co-Moderator.

Like many of you, my background is in studio arts. I have a BFA from the University of Montevallo, taught Montessori art for two years, and then went to back to school to receive my MLIS from The University of Alabama. During this time I worked in the university archives in marketing and outreach and interned at the Birmingham Museum of Art’s Hanson Library. For the past year I’ve worked as the Assistant Librarian/Visual Resources Curator at Watkins College of Art and Design in Nashville, TN. I will be returning to graduate school this fall for an interdisciplinary PhD in Media, Art and Text at Virginia Commonwealth University. I am personally and professionally invested in learning how to harness knowledge of new and emerging technologies to contribute to research and pedagogy in the arts.

I am eager to become more involved in ArLiSNAP and believe my talents and experiences are suited to the duties of Co-Moderator of ArLiSNAP.

Thank you for your consideration.

All Best,

Virginia Allison

<b>Application for Co-Moderator Position</b>

Hi all. I’m Tracy Bergstrom, and I’d like to be considered for the position of Co-Moderator. At the beginning of the year, I had set some professional goals for myself which included *blog more* and *get more involved with ArLiS.* I was enthused to read that ArLiSNAP was looking for a co-moderator, a position which would allow me to both be more engaged with young artsy librarian folk and explore new technologies.

As for background, I have B.A. in art history from Smith College, an M.A. in archaeological studies from Yale University, and just recently completed an M.L.S. with a focus in special collections librarianship and digital content from Southern Connecticut State University. I worked for several years as an art image cataloguer with Yale University’s Visual Resources Collection and am now the Special Collections Librarian for Digital Projects at the University of Notre Dame. My current position involves creating and re-packaging metadata for special collections resources such as historical photographs, numismatic objects, print materials and artists’ books.

As someone with an interest in cataloguing, data schemata AND the visual arts, it wasn’t clear to me as a student how I could capitalize on these interests. I was lucky in that as a VRC cataloguer I was introduced to a community of metadata and electronic services librarians who helped me to see the potential directions I could pursue. But I realize that for many students, this information isn’t so readily at hand. I’d like to broaden the scope of last year’s <a href="http://abcs.wordpress.com/2007/04/10/annual-report-and-goals-of-the-arlisna-student-affairs-discussion-group/" rel="nofollow">Annual Report</a> goal to publish print and online resources for students to ensure that these resources reflect the broad range of directions available to new graduates. I’m also interested in expanding the outreach that ArLiSNAP does with current students and the possibilities therein.

Looking forward to seeing you all in Denver!
