The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign seeks an innovative, collaborative, and service-oriented professional for the position of Planning, Landscape Architecture, & Design (PLAD) Subject Librarian. Reporting to the University Librarian, the PLAD Subject Librarian will serve as the subject specialist in the fields of Urban & Regional Planning and Landscape Architecture, and as liaison to faculty, staff, and students in relevant programs and departments in the College of Fine and Applied Arts. Together with colleagues in the Library, the College, and campus information technology units, he or she will contribute to the development of a campus-wide approach to the management of digital resources relevant to teaching, learning, and research in the visual arts and design disciplines.

Housed in the Funk Family College of ACES Library, the PLAD Subject Librarian will provide reference and information services at the ACES Library service desk (and in other venues), design and deliver information literacy instruction and/or information technology training in the use of relevant resources, collections, or tools, oversee the materials budget and manage the print and digital collections that support teaching and research in the fields of Urban & Regional Planning and Landscape Architecture (including one of the country’s premier collections in Landscape History), and design, deliver, and assess the effectiveness of public service programs aimed at students, staff, and faculty in liaison departments. Idee Labs has come up with a way to search Flickr images by color.  It’s fun to play with, but might also make some visual resources folks think a bit.  We already know that people don’t always search for images by content, and that there are plenty of images that just aren’t easily findable through keyword searches.  What if you could find your Rothko images this way?

New Voices showcases exceptional academic work by students and new professionals (under 5 years post MLS.) Paper topics should relate strongly to Art and/or Visual Resources Librarianship, but also digital library projects, archives, library instruction, reference and the changing nature of libraries, among other topics.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Performs original and copy cataloging in a variety of formats, subjects, and languages, from all periods.
  • Creates and edits records in OCLC WorldCat and the Library’s online catalog, Ex Libris Voyager.
  • Applies current cataloging and description resources to meet national standards, consortium requirements, and local specifications for managing print and digital collections.
  • Formats may include, but are not limited to: monographs, serials, graphics, sound and video recordings, computer files, online resources, scores, microforms, manuscripts (individual and collections), and digital materials. A special emphasis is placed on cartographic materials.
  • May participate in directing the work of copy catalogers.

Participates in the Department’s goals to process uncataloged materials.

On behalf of the Catholic Research Resources Alliance (CRRA), the Hesburgh Libraries at the University of Notre Dame seeks applicants for the position of Digital Project Librarian. This position will support the creation, maintenance and implementation of a portal application providing access to rare, unique, and infrequently held materials in academic libraries, seminaries’ special collections, and archives. In electronically bringing together access to resources from many collections, the portal will create easy, effective, and global discovery of Catholic research resources. By exploiting any number of well-established metadata schemes, community-building processes, and database/indexing technologies, the portal will provide access to research resources in print, digital and other formats.

Responsibilities

The primary job responsibilities include:

* Writing documentation for requirements, standards, portal protocols, portal architecture, instructions for participating libraries, and “about the portal.”
* Planning the implementation schedule for future development.
* Communicating project activities to participating libraries, CRRA committee members, and project sponsors.
* Training and instructing on the creation of Encoded Archival Description (EAD) files to participating libraries based on current best practices as well as CRRA metadata standards, requirements, and protocols.

* Serving as a member of Team Catholic Portal.

The successful candidate will initially be appointed for a two year term with every expectation that the position will become ongoing. The individual will be housed in the Digital Access and Information Architecture Department and administratively report to the Head of the Department. Team Catholic Portal is responsible for the overall management of the portal.

Auburn University invites applications for a twelve-month, tenure track position as Digital Projects Librarian within the Auburn University Libraries.
= This position is based in the Libraries’ Systems Department and reports to the director of library technology.
= Under the leadership of the director of library technology, and working in consultation with other Library departments in accordance with the Libraries’ Strategic Plan, the Digital Projects Librarian will take the lead in coordinating the design, creation, and maintenance of the collections comprising the Auburn University Digital Library as well as other digital initiatives.
= The Digital Projects Librarian will work across Library departments to assess and develop appropriate standards, policies, and procedures for the Libraries’ digital projects and to ensure continued development and maintenance of the Libraries’ digital initiatives, which include projects with the Auburn University Special Collections & Archives Department, joint projects with other Auburn University departments and a library-sponsored digitization program.
= The Digital Projects Librarian will also represent the Libraries on projects with other institutions in Alabama and the southeast.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES: Project management for the Libraries’ digital initiatives, including drafting and maintaining policies and procedures; overseeing the production processes needed to maintain the Libraries’ digital collections; helping to train staff in basic digital library skills; ensuring compliance with standards and best practices for digital collections and digital preservation; collaborating with other librarians, including metadata librarians, to create new digital collections and enhance existing ones; overseeing the conversion of textual, image, audio, and video materials into digital form; keeping abreast of developments in digital librarianship, including new tools for the organization and display of digital materials; chairing and organizing meetings of the Libraries’ Digital Projects Working Group; working with university-wide faculty to incorporate digitization initiatives into their research, teaching and outreach activities; performing copyright research and due-diligence correspondence; serving on University committees as needed and representing the Libraries at the state, regional, and national levels; and grant writing.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
= A Masters degree from an ALA-accredited library program;
= familiarity with standards and best practices for digital library projects;
= experience working with Dublin Core, EAD, METS, MODS, or other metadata standards, as well as controlled vocabularies (LCSH, AAT, etc.);
= working knowledge of CONTENTdm or a similar digital content-management software package;
= ability to draft and maintain clear documentation and policies for digital projects and programs;
= proven ability to successfully initiate, track, and manage multiple detail-oriented projects simultaneously in a collaborative faculty environment;
= commitment to creating and maintaining high-quality digital collections and exhibits that can be used for teaching, research and outreach.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
= Archival training demonstrated knowledge of rare and unique library materials;
= professional-level knowledge of and experience with copyright law and/or copyright compliance;
= experience planning, implementing, and/or maintaining an institutional repository (IR) using DSpace, Fedora, or another IR package;
= proven ability to design innovative library services using social software and Web 2.0 technologies;
= training and supervisory experience; grant-writing experience;
= second graduate degree in the humanities and social sciences, especially English, history, or a foreign language.

SALARY/BENEFITS: Minimum salary $44,720 with appointment as Librarian II, higher with experience, or appointment as a Librarian III.
Rank will be commensurate with experience/qualifications. Mandatory participation in State Teacher’s Retirement System; optional participation in other retirement plans; twenty days vacation/twelve days sick per year; health, life, dental and disability insurance.

Job Description

Position: Image Coordinator, part-time (18.75 hrs/week)
Reports to: Librarian

Overview:
This is a part-time position to administer the museum’s photographic rights and reproduction services. Fills image requests for many types of external and internal publications. Ensures copyright information within MOCA’s collection management and digital asset management systems is updated and accurate. Conducts copyright research and compiles permission credits. Helps retrieve images and answer general image reference queries.

Requirements:
Familiarity with image rights and reproductions practices, and copyright and intellectual property law strongly preferred. Knowledge of Photoshop CS and experience applying digital image metadata required. Experience with collection management and digital asset management systems preferred. Excellent oral and written communication skills; outstanding administrative, planning, detail orientation, and organizational skills required. Two years of related work experience preferred; or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience. Knowledge of contemporary art is helpful.

Essential Functions:

Communicating primarily by telephone and e-mail, works with external clients and media outlets to fill requests for images from the museum’s visual collection. Under the Librarian’s guidance, negotiates fees and terms of image use; generates contracts and invoices; and provides images by client deadlines.

Clears permissions for a variety of images, including for the permanent collection and media, and compiles photography and permission credits.

Works with Deputy Director and Librarian to draft and develop policies for image licensing and copyright issues.

Prepares and transfers digital images for clients using a variety of electronic methods. Prepares and tracks analog images, primarily transparencies and slides, on loan to publishers.

Helps maintain the museum’s visual library containing various formats related to MOCA’s exhibitions and its collections. Reformats, resizes and color corrects images as needed. Organizes and labels photographic materials as needed.

Inputs photo credit and information regarding conditions of use into collection management and digital asset management systems.

Assists staff and outside researchers with general photographic requests.

Other duties as assigned.

Physical Demands
Must be able to sit for long periods of time. Must be able to visually inspect work. Must be able to bend and reach for filing and other job-related functions. Heavy usage of phones and computers. Manual dexterity to operate computer and other office equipment required. Mobility to move around the office and distribute reports/correspondence.
