-Participation in selection of books, audio-visual materials, databases, and periodicals for acquisition in subject areas related to art, architecture and design
-Preparation and updating of printed and web-based library guides

Minimum Qualifications: -M.L.S. from accredited library school
-Knowledge of art, art history, architecture or design
-Demonstrated competence in reference and instruction in an academic library
-Experience with electronic resources and integrated library systems
-Ability to set and meet competing priorities
-Ability to work effectively with faculty, students and staff
-Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication

Auburn University invites applications for a twelve-month, tenure track position as Digital Projects Librarian within the Auburn University Libraries.
= This position is based in the Libraries’ Systems Department and reports to the director of library technology.
= Under the leadership of the director of library technology, and working in consultation with other Library departments in accordance with the Libraries’ Strategic Plan, the Digital Projects Librarian will take the lead in coordinating the design, creation, and maintenance of the collections comprising the Auburn University Digital Library as well as other digital initiatives.
= The Digital Projects Librarian will work across Library departments to assess and develop appropriate standards, policies, and procedures for the Libraries’ digital projects and to ensure continued development and maintenance of the Libraries’ digital initiatives, which include projects with the Auburn University Special Collections & Archives Department, joint projects with other Auburn University departments and a library-sponsored digitization program.
= The Digital Projects Librarian will also represent the Libraries on projects with other institutions in Alabama and the southeast.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES: Project management for the Libraries’ digital initiatives, including drafting and maintaining policies and procedures; overseeing the production processes needed to maintain the Libraries’ digital collections; helping to train staff in basic digital library skills; ensuring compliance with standards and best practices for digital collections and digital preservation; collaborating with other librarians, including metadata librarians, to create new digital collections and enhance existing ones; overseeing the conversion of textual, image, audio, and video materials into digital form; keeping abreast of developments in digital librarianship, including new tools for the organization and display of digital materials; chairing and organizing meetings of the Libraries’ Digital Projects Working Group; working with university-wide faculty to incorporate digitization initiatives into their research, teaching and outreach activities; performing copyright research and due-diligence correspondence; serving on University committees as needed and representing the Libraries at the state, regional, and national levels; and grant writing.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
= A Masters degree from an ALA-accredited library program;
= familiarity with standards and best practices for digital library projects;
= experience working with Dublin Core, EAD, METS, MODS, or other metadata standards, as well as controlled vocabularies (LCSH, AAT, etc.);
= working knowledge of CONTENTdm or a similar digital content-management software package;
= ability to draft and maintain clear documentation and policies for digital projects and programs;
= proven ability to successfully initiate, track, and manage multiple detail-oriented projects simultaneously in a collaborative faculty environment;
= commitment to creating and maintaining high-quality digital collections and exhibits that can be used for teaching, research and outreach.

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
= Archival training demonstrated knowledge of rare and unique library materials;
= professional-level knowledge of and experience with copyright law and/or copyright compliance;
= experience planning, implementing, and/or maintaining an institutional repository (IR) using DSpace, Fedora, or another IR package;
= proven ability to design innovative library services using social software and Web 2.0 technologies;
= training and supervisory experience; grant-writing experience;
= second graduate degree in the humanities and social sciences, especially English, history, or a foreign language.

SALARY/BENEFITS: Minimum salary $44,720 with appointment as Librarian II, higher with experience, or appointment as a Librarian III.
Rank will be commensurate with experience/qualifications. Mandatory participation in State Teacher’s Retirement System; optional participation in other retirement plans; twenty days vacation/twelve days sick per year; health, life, dental and disability insurance.
