Job Description

• The Assistant Librarian will run the Circulation desk from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., Monday through Friday, supervising Work Study Students.
• The Assistant Librarian will perform basic Reference services, referring faculty and students to the Library Director when necessary for more advanced reference and referrals to other libraries.
• The Assistant Librarian will reorganize and maintain the Materials Collection and Vendor Literature Collection, establishing relationships with key vendors in the design and construction industries and create a database to track inventories in these collections.
• The Assistant Librarian will work with the Library Director, library staff and faculty and staff of the College to assess current levels of service and to suggest and implement improvements.
• The Assistant Librarian will work with the Manager of Visual Resources in developing our digital image database and cataloging images as needed.
• The Assistant Librarian will work with the Library Associate with Serials processing as needed.
• The Assistant Librarian will work on special projects as needed.Competitive salary and excellent benefits package

Required Experience

• Knowledge of Integrated Library Systems (preferably Aleph).
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications (particularly Access).
• Strong oral and communication skills.
• Background in or knowledge of art, architecture and design highly preferred.
• Experience in an Art and Design School or Museum Library preferred.
• Willingness to be flexible and a member of a team

Description:

The Grand Valley State University Libraries invite applications for a full-time tenure-track Arts and Humanities Librarian. Duties will include providing virtual and traditional reference assistance, library instruction, performing collection development and serving as liaison to one or more academic departments in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences. This position will be located at the Zumberge Library on GVSU’s main campus in Allendale, MI and will require evening and weekend hours.

Requirements: Master of Library Science degree from an ALA accredited institution; exceptional interpersonal and communication skills; ability to work in a team environment; strong commitment to public service.

Desired qualifications: undergraduate or graduate degree in the humanities; experience providing reference and instruction; experience with collection development.
