| The University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign seeks an innovative, collaborative, and service-oriented professional for the position of Planning, Landscape Architecture, & Design (PLAD) Subject Librarian. Reporting to the University Librarian, the PLAD Subject Librarian will serve as the subject specialist in the fields of Urban & Regional Planning and Landscape Architecture, and as liaison to faculty, staff, and students in relevant programs and departments in the College of Fine and Applied Arts. Together with colleagues in the Library, the College, and campus information technology units, he or she will contribute to the development of a campus-wide approach to the management of digital resources relevant to teaching, learning, and research in the visual arts and design disciplines.
Housed in the Funk Family College of ACES Library, the PLAD Subject Librarian will provide reference and information services at the ACES Library service desk (and in other venues), design and deliver information literacy instruction and/or information technology training in the use of relevant resources, collections, or tools, oversee the materials budget and manage the print and digital collections that support teaching and research in the fields of Urban & Regional Planning and Landscape Architecture (including one of the country’s premier collections in Landscape History), and design, deliver, and assess the effectiveness of public service programs aimed at students, staff, and faculty in liaison departments. The PLAD Subject Librarian will contribute to Library-wide service initiatives, including those in the areas of scholarly communications, digital content creation, and assessment of services and collections, and will collaborate with campus colleagues to provide services to users in need of cartographic and geospatial resources, digital images, and other visual resources. Search Flickr by Color

It’s fun to play with, but might also make some visual resources folks think a bit. We already know that people don’t always search for images by content, and that there are plenty of images that just aren’t easily findable through keyword searches. What if you could find your Rothko images this way?
