Under the direction of the Head of Digital Library Initiatives, the Digital Projects Librarian will explore, adapt, recommend, implement, and support existing and emerging applications for the Libraries’ digital projects, including those to preserve and improve access to the Libraries and to their archival collections in all formats (text, image, audio, video) and for digital repository projects. S/he will:
* Explore, adapt, and support library information technologies for digital preservation and presentation, including the application of standards, metadata, discovery interfaces, workflow design, production coordination, and quality controls appropriate to specific projects.
* Program, design, or specify databases and data migration. Assist in the design, creation, and maintenance of World Wide Web applications.
* Install and administer software such as CONTENTdm. Maintain awareness and develop expertise in open-source software applications as appropriate. Create and maintain work and procedure documentation.
* Provide training, instruction, support, and documentation to library staff and non-technical personnel involved with projects.
* Maintain continuing general professional awareness and develop in-depth knowledge of new technologies, relevant national standards and best practices, assessing and integrating these into library practices for best results as appropriate. Participate in the gathering and analysis of project and use data.

The individual will participate in library-wide committees, projects, and activities and assume other responsibilities as needed. Engagement in external professional activity is also expected.

REQUIRED:
* Master’s degree in Library Science (ALA-accredited or equivalent)
* Demonstrated ability to apply existing and emerging technology to new projects/ventures
* Demonstrated ability to successfully apply technology within libraries to improve access to collections or services
* Relevant expertise with one or more of the following: XML/XSLT, UNIX, library automation software applications, database design and development, scripting languages such as Perl and/or PHP, Web-authoring tools, Web page development, and open source software
* Knowledge of metadata schema
* Ability to work effectively both as a team member and independently
* Strong interpersonal skills, as well as excellent oral and written communication skills

DESIRED:
* Strong analytical, organizational, and decision-making skills evidenced, for example, in projects completed within established deadlines and reflecting attention to cost factors and productivity issues
* Evidence of participation in relevant professional development to ensure continuing awareness of tools, trends, issues, and best practices
* Experience with or knowledge of relevant software tools and platforms, storage issues, and metadata issues pertinent to digital libraries and/or institutional repositories
* Basic familiarity with copyright issues as they relate to digital reformatting and scholarly communication
