Purpose: The Award’s purpose is to cultivate a talented, dedicated, and educated group of professionals for the ARLIS/NA organization as well as the ARLIS/SE chapter. Funds from this award may be used to pay for travel, lodging, registration and meals associated with professional development activities at the annual ARLIS/NA conference.

Eligibility: Applicants must currently reside in the geographic area served by the ARLIS/SE chapter (Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, Puerto Rico, South Carolina, Tennessee, and the U.S. Virgin Islands). Membership in ARLIS/SE and ARLIS/NA at the time of application is not required, although preference will be given to current ARLIS/SE members. Applicants must also currently be either employed in the field of art librarianship and/or visual resources curatorship, or enrolled in an educational program leading to a graduate degree. METADATA LIBRARIAN, MIT Libraries-Metadata Services Unit,
= to be responsible for original and complex copy cataloging of monographic materials in all formats, creating and maintaining authority records, and creating metadata for digital projects.
= Will serve as a resource for staff performing copy cataloging and assist unit manager with training, workflow redesign, and project management; work with metadata specialist who leads the unit and collaborate with library staff engaged in metadata creation; direct students and supervise the work of staff as needed; keep current with emerging standards; and participate in committees and on projects within the MIT Libraries and beyond.

REQUIREMENTS:
= an ALA-accredited MLS/MLIS;
= at least three years’ cataloging/metadata experience;
= experience with cataloging and authorities standards and practices using AACR2, LCSH, and LC classification;
= ability to learn, analyze, and utilize existing and emerging metadata standards such as Dublin Core, EAD, FGDC, MODS, METS, PREMIS, and VRA Core;
= excellent interpersonal, analytical, and communication skills;
= demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as part of team;
= success in deadline-driven project work;
= proven ability to manage and prioritize projects and train staff; and
= demonstrated awareness of national trends and developments in cataloging, metadata standards, and information retrieval.

PREFERRED:
= Three years’ professional cataloging/metadata experience in an academic or research library;
= supervisory experience;
= working familiarity with at least one repository software package, e.g., DSpace or Fedora; familiarity with Dublin Core;
= experience working with one or more non-MARC metadata format, ideally in a digital library environment; and

Background
The Frick Collection is an art museum consisting of more than 1,100 works of art from the thirteenth to the nineteenth century, displayed in the intimate surroundings of the former home of Henry Clay Frick. The residence, with its furnishings and works of art, has been open to the public since 1935. It is one of the world’s most perfect museums; The Frick Art Reference Library is an international research library, photoarchive, and archive that serve as one of the world’s most complete resources for the study of Western art.  Founded in 1920, the Library today has holdings of more than one million study photographs, 285,000 books, 80,000 auction catalogs, and 2,250 periodical titles.  It is open to interested individuals from all over the world.

Summary and Responsibilities
This is a fulltime position reporting to the Chief of Public Services. The Assistant Reference Librarian provides reference assistance to the Library’s users on and off site.  Primary responsibilities include: assisting with public services activities; assisting with remote reference services; overseeing and assisting with interlibrary loan and electronic document delivery; providing bibliographic instruction workshops.

Additional responsibilities include: assisting with the evaluation of reference resources; creating content for the electronic resources area of the Library section of the website; installing and testing electronic resources.  The Library is open to the public on Saturdays, September – May, therefore some weekend hours are required.

Qualifications
MLS or equivalent from an ALA-accredited program. Experience in art reference and electronic information resources and services essential.  Academic background in the history of Western art. Reading knowledge of one or more Western European language.  Excellent oral and written communication skills.  Strong public service orientation. Ability to initiate, plan, and implement projects; both independently and as a member of a team.

RESPONSIBILITIES: The University of Alabama seeks qualified applicants for the position of Music, Fine & Performing Arts Collections Coordinator. Reporting to the Associate Dean for Collections, the Music, Fine & Performing Arts Collections Coordinator is responsible for: evaluating, assessing and developing scholarly resources in all formats in music, fine and performing arts, instructing students and faculty in the use of arts print and electronic resources; providing reference service and in-depth research assistance in assigned subject areas; collaborating with library staff to provide access to relevant collections; collaborating with other Collections Coordinators and serving as a liaison to appropriate departments and programs. The Music, Fine & Performing Arts Collections Coordinator also is responsible for the operations and services of the Music Library.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS: MLS/MLIS from an ALA-accredited program or equivalent; minimum two years post MLS library experience; second Master’s or Ph.D. in appropriate discipline; knowledge of and experience with music, fine and/or performing arts collections; experience with all aspects of collection management, including selection for remote storage; supervisory experience; ability to work both independently and in cooperation with colleagues and library users in a service oriented, team based environment; excellent written and oral communication skills, outstanding interpersonal skills; initiative and flexibility; ability to meet University requirements for promotion and tenure.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Experience in library instruction and virtual delivery of services. Demonstrated knowledge of and experience with digital humanities initiatives.
