METADATA LIBRARIAN, MIT Libraries-Metadata Services Unit,
= to be responsible for original and complex copy cataloging of monographic materials in all formats, creating and maintaining authority records, and creating metadata for digital projects.
= Will serve as a resource for staff performing copy cataloging and assist unit manager with training, workflow redesign, and project management; work with metadata specialist who leads the unit and collaborate with library staff engaged in metadata creation; direct students and supervise the work of staff as needed; keep current with emerging standards; and participate in committees and on projects within the MIT Libraries and beyond.

REQUIREMENTS:
= an ALA-accredited MLS/MLIS;
= at least three years’ cataloging/metadata experience;
= experience with cataloging and authorities standards and practices using AACR2, LCSH, and LC classification;
= ability to learn, analyze, and utilize existing and emerging metadata standards such as Dublin Core, EAD, FGDC, MODS, METS, PREMIS, and VRA Core;
= excellent interpersonal, analytical, and communication skills;
= demonstrated ability to work collaboratively as part of team;
= success in deadline-driven project work;
= proven ability to manage and prioritize projects and train staff; and
= demonstrated awareness of national trends and developments in cataloging, metadata standards, and information retrieval.
PREFERRED:
= Three years’ professional cataloging/metadata experience in an academic or research library;
= supervisory experience;
= working familiarity with at least one repository software package, e.g., DSpace or Fedora; familiarity with Dublin Core;
= experience working with one or more non-MARC metadata format, ideally in a digital library environment; and
