Metadata Services forms part of Technical Services within the Content Division, which also includes Preservation, Digitization Services, and Storage. The Content Division, and specifically Metadata Services, complements key initiatives for developing digital content in special collections, Digital Programs/Institute for Digital Scholarship, and Repository Services. The libraries are currently in the developmental stages of building a repository infrastructure to manage digital content and metadata, and are continually developing services and technologies that share and allow use of digital content through a system such as ExLibris’ Primo.

The Digital Asset Management (DAM) project is a grant‐funded initiative at the Centre for the Arts and Communications, Grant MacEwan College.  The project is multifaceted involving the shift toward mandatory laptop requirement in the classroom, the development of online environments that encourage cross‐program student collaboration, the use of e‐content in instruction and teaching, and the development of a web presence to highlight the creative output of MacEwan students and faculty.  As part of the DAM project initiative, the Centre for the Arts and Communications Campus requires a Metadata Specialist to recommend appropriate metadata standard(s), controlled vocabularies and workflows for a variety of digital collections that include audio, text, image, moving image and born digital assets.
