If so, please submit a brief proposal for a Pecha Kucha style presentation during the annual meeting of the Museum Archives section at the 2011 SAA conference. We look forward to accepting proposals that relate to museum archives, highlight new collections, or include repository news or highlights. About the Pecha Kucha format: Pecha Kucha sessions consist of multiple presenters, each having approximately 6 minutes and 40 seconds to present 20 PowerPoint slides on their topic. Timing will be strictly followed.

The ACRL Arts Section is seeking contributors to the Philadelphia ArtsGuide for the upcoming 2011 ACRL Conference, March 30-April 2.

The ArtsGuide is a semi-annual guide and customized Google Map developed by members and associates of ACRL’s Arts Section to help conference attendees find arts-related venues and events in and around host cities.

This is a great opportunity to get involved in the ACRL Arts Section. It’s also a fun way to contribute your knowledge of the area to enhance everyone’s conference experience!

We’re pleased to announce this year’s Pub Stop event, scheduled for Friday, April 23. We’ll plan to depart from the Welcome Party at around 9pm and head over to The Barking Crab, located at 88 Sleeper Street about a 10 minute walk from the hotel. A map is included on our crustacean-adorned fliers (see above), which will be distributed at the registration desk and newbie orientation event next week.

For those attending the conference for the first time, the Pub event is organized by ArLiSNAP to promote general introductions and levity amongst members. We sincerely hope to see you there.

ALA Midwinter attendees are cordially invited to participate in a FREE behind-the-scenes tour of the Northeast Document Conservation Center (NEDCC) in Andover, MA, on Friday, January 15, 2010. Highlights include the paper conservation labs where many of the nation’s most significant cultural heritage materials have been treated, and the Center’s Imaging Services department where the digitization and preservation microfilm units operate. Preservation Services staff will speak briefly about workshops and conferences on topics ranging from basic book repair to scrapbook preservation to digitization.

The Web 2.0 Tech Kiosk was developed as a way of introducing art information professionals to the tools and uses of Web 2.0 technology.  At the 2008 Annual Conference of ARLIS/NA, the Tech Kiosk  invited attendees to get hands-on instruction in setting up a blog, posting to a flickr account, subscribing to RSS feeds, creating a wiki, and more.  The goal of the kiosk was to provide a one-on-one learning experience, in which visitors could discover free tricks and tools and walk away with some hands-on experience and knowledge of how the world of art information is changing.  What we found was that one-on-one became many-to-many, and before long visitors were all asking questions that led to other questions and inspired new ideas for other kiosk visitors.  While the tech staff provided most of the answers, it was the questions that prompted the real learning, on both sides of the table!

With that in mind, what are some topics/categories that you think a wiki of this kind should cover?  Here are some thoughts to get things rolling:

• Which meetings are open/which are invite-only
• Dress “code” (both general, and for special events)
• Money-saving tips

… What else?

Tracy and I will take your suggestions into account and create the basic structure for the wiki, and will then open it up for contributions from everyone… we’re sure that there are some experts out there that can really help to make it a useful resource!

Going along with the conference’s theme of start your engines, we need to get revved up about the pub crawl.  We’re looking for someone local to Indy who can:

-    figure out a logical and easily locatable meeting place
-    plan us a route of pubs to crawl (including one with food…)
-    get word of the event out to any and all who might be interested

We’ve also been thinking about how we might use ArLiSNAP to promote events where our readers could get together and meet face-to-face.  To this end, we’d like to put out a call for a Connections Liaison (or two) to take up the responsibility of distributing info about opportunities for getting together.  These might include:

-    announcements of local ARLIS/NA chapter or student group meetings
-    info on continuing education opportunities or lectures
-    any other info on events that would facilitate us getting to know one another on a greater frequency than once a year.

We’re glad for any and all volunteers for either the Pub Crawl Organizer or Connections Liaison positions, so just leave a comment if you think you might be interested.

I read blogswithoutalibrary, and just got around to Amanda’s conference ideas photoessay. The ideas she shares are incredibly cool – some would work well for ARLIS, although others probably wouldn’t fly.

In particular, I like the idea of an icebreaker or two (I know, icebreakers have a bad rap, but they are actually useful after the fact when you’ve made a contact), the loose-leaf “at a glance program,” and podcasting.

Do other ArLiSNAPers think these ideas have merit? Are there other engaging conference ideas you’ve heard of or experienced? Which ones would you like to see implemented in the future?
