Reporting to the Head of Libraries and Archives, the successful candidate will join a team of talented staff working in a highly collaborative environment. Primary job responsibilities for this position include:

• Conducting an inventory and appraisal of existing archival collections
• Developing guidelines, policies, and procedures for archives management, including the creation of internal forms for handling archives requests
• Implementing an arrangement and description program in a manner consistent with standard professional practices
• Ensuring the effective preservation, access, and security of archival collections, as well as determining plans for their short and long-term storage
• Facilitating the online access, implementation, and prioritization of digital projects
• Active participation in identifying funding for special projects

• Recommendations for a museum-wide records management policy

JOB QUALIFICATIONS*:

• Experience in the planning and implementation of online access to archival collections

The Speed Art Museum, Louisville, Kentucky seeks candidates for full time temporary librarian to oversee the transition of the library including: coordinating cataloguing of the Speed Museum Library’s Core Resource Collection; transferring volumes to the University of Louisville (UofL) Library; and deaccessioning of remaining volumes.  Librarian will manage the library provide assistance with available resources.

Primary responsibilities include writing and implementing policies and procedures for transition of library holdings; documenting process; managing development of Core Resource Collection to be housed at the Museum; coordinating transfer of volumes to UofL; coordinating sale of volumes approved for deaccessioning; managing routine aspects of the Museum’s library; and planning organization, housing, and accessibility of archives.

Qualifications: degree in Library Science (equivalent training and experience), MLS from an ALA-accredited graduate program preferred; two-years experience, preferably in an art library; experience in library transitions, including developing limited resource collection, and deaccessioning; knowledge of art history and museum practices, familiarity with archival practice preferred; strong interpersonal and oral and written communication.  Reading knowledge of Western European language desired.

The Associate Special Collections Cataloger is responsible for the arrangement and description of special collections materials related to the visual arts, with an emphasis on cataloging video art. Responsibilities may also include metadata creation for digitization projects. GRI special collections include archives and manuscripts, drawings, prints, rare photographs and architectural collections, as well as a vast archive of video art and associated papers that span the early history of the medium.

DUTIES: The Humanities Librarian plays an important role in the delivery of the University of Oklahoma Libraries’ reference and outreach services. The Haas Family Arts Library at Yale consists of collections from three formerly-separate operating units: Art and Architecture, Arts of the Book, and Drama. Now located under one roof, these libraries support arts-area programming at Yale, including the Schools of Architecture, Art, and Drama, and the department of the History of Art, as well as the teaching and research needs of the Yale community beyond the visual arts. Position Description
The Yale University Library welcomes applications and nominations for the 2010/11 Kress Fellowship in Art Librarianship. The Kress Fellowship is intended for a recent graduate from library school who wishes to pursue a career in art librarianship. This fellowship is made possible through the generosity of the Samuel H. Kress Foundation. Through this fellowship, the Kress Foundation seeks to achieve in the field of art librarianship what it has accomplished for art history and art conservation: ensuring the growth of the discipline by promoting the advancement of new professionals.

This year the focus of the Kress Fellowship will be on special collections in the arts, which will include experience in collection management, exhibition development and installation, as well as reference. During their tenure at Yale, Kress Fellows are expected to pursue a mutually agreed-upon project resulting in a publishable paper or a new library service. Kress Fellows are also introduced to a broad spectrum of professional activities beyond special collections and may have the opportunity to perform collection development activities, participate in instructional programming and the work of library committees and external professional organizations.

The Kress Fellowship is a competitive fellowship.
