The Sistine Chapel Reaches Second Life
Posted: July 3, 2007 Filed under: Art History, Images, Museums, News, Personal Websites, SecondLife, Technology Comments OffSteven J. Taylor, director of academic computing at Vassar College, has recreated the interior of the Sistine Chapel in the virtual world Second Life. On the college’s Second Life island, visitors can step inside a pale-yellow building and view a replica of the frescoes that adorn the 15th-century chapel in Vatican City. They can even fly up to the ceiling to get a close up of the nine stories from the Book of Genesis painted by Michelangelo. The purpose of the project is to help students learn about art and architecture, says Mr. Taylor, who created the interior from photographs. –Andrea Foster

Second Life, Museums, and Archaeological Modeling

The researchers have identified the trend of user-created cultural institutions, rather than institution-created cultural sites. Plus, “serious leisure” and Oldenburg’s “third spaces” – what an amazing opportunity to create new spaces for cultural creativity!
Buy a T-shirt, Fund an MLS Graduation!
Posted: February 25, 2007 Filed under: Fun, Personal Websites Comments OffHello everyone,
My MLS graduation is coming up this August. I attend a distance program in Portland, OR through Emporia State University.
Unfortunately since we are a distance program, we have to
supply our own graduation! We can get re-embursed (up to $1500) for a certain things (venue, decorations, keynote speaker).
However it won’t cover everything (refreshments, cap and gown, etc) and frankly events are not cheap! There are only 30 some students in our class so we are having to pay a lot of out of pocket money.
This is the link to help make our graduation not too crappy. There is merchandise from cafe press plus a button to give $$$ through Paypal.

Please check it out and maybe buy a funny t-shirt to help us make a graduation to remember!
Sorry about the shameless plug but we really need some help!
Thanks,

Tiffany is a new academic librarian who’s been blogging about her experiences at The Tyro Librarian. She says that her blog is a place “where a novice could ask questions, receive answers, and display the advice for other beginning librarians would be beneficial not only to me but other tyro librarians as well.”
