Responsible for converting archival materials to digital format using a high-resolution scanner and a digital camera for the IMA Archives Miller House and Garden Collection
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS
- Properly handle fragile and rare archival materials
- Support the preparation of materials for scanning
- Scan and photograph archival materials and import in photo software; edit images as required using provided software (Silverfast, Photoshop, etc.)
- Upload images and enter metadata into Nuxeo (image repository)
- Enter descriptive metadata into Archon (an archives management system)
- Calibrate all components of scanner and computer work station on a regular basis
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
- Ability to work effectively with supervision and as part of a team
- Sensitivity to and experience handling archival materials
- Ability to operate a computer, scanner and digital camera
- Experience using Adobe Photoshop preferred
- Working knowledge of work processing, spreadsheet and database software applications preferred
- Ability to understand and follow oral and written directions
- Experience doing research or knowledge of historical research preferred
- Interest in/knowledge of design and/or architecture preferred

Job Description:
The Catalog Librarian will provide access to the collections of the Decker Library through the online catalog. This position will provide accurate online cataloging records for library holdings. These records include uniform searchable access points for authors, titles, series and subjects. This position will be responsible for the integrity of online cataloging records and library holdings. The Catalog Librarian will administer Cataloging and Serials modules of the SIRSI Online Cataloging System. The position reports directly to the Director of Decker Library.
Duties include:
- Provide online bibliographic records for all Decker Library acquisitions through derivative or original cataloging
- Replace or remove missing titles from online catalog
- Correct bibliographic descriptions (including author and subject headings) to improve searching functionality of the online catalog ; correct errors in call numbers to improve functionality of shelf browsing; correct or add item ID’s to allow book circulation
- Develop and revise local cataloging policy in accordance with policies of Library of Congress, The American Library Association and OCLC; update and maintain Decker Library Cataloging Manual
- Instruct Reference and MRC staff in editing of bibliographic records to be added to the collections
- Monitor SIRSI and cataloging listservs and blogs (e.g. AUTOCAT, RDA Blog) and attend conferences and webinars for applicable information
- Oversee changes to SIRSI Cataloging and Serials modules as needed
- Provide assistance at Reference Desk and Circulation Desk as needed
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Requirements:
- Knowledge of: Anglo-American Cataloging Rules, 2nd ed., rev; familiarity with FRBR and RDA (Resource Description & Access); Library of Congress authority, cataloging, subject analysis and classification rules and policies; USMARC bibliographic and holdings formats; SIRSI administrative system;
- A broad knowledge of art and art history in order to analyze subject matter and assign proper access points and call numbers
- General knowledge of manual and online reference tools
- General knowledge of circulation commands and policies.
- Excellent computer skills required for use of SIRSI, OCLC Connexion Client, RDA Toolkit, and LC Classification Web
- Knowledge of Microsoft Applications
- Excellent proofreading skills
- Ability to work independently
- Ability to keep abreast of changes in national and international cataloging policies and apply them locally as needed
- Ability to explain complicated information in a clear and concise manner

Qualifications:
- MLS from ALA accredited institution or equivalent in experience
- Minimum of 3 years original cataloging experience at an academic institution; background in fine art and/or art history; bibliographic knowledge of at least one western European language (German, French, and/or Italian)
Valued but not required:
- MA or BA in art history, or an MFA or BFA in fine art, or similar educational background and experience.

THE ROBERT B. HAAS FAMILY ARTS LIBRARY
The Haas Family Arts Library at Yale consists of collections from four formerly-separate operating units: Art and Architecture, Arts of the Book, Drama and the Visual Resources Collection. Now located under one roof, these libraries support arts-area programming at Yale, including the Schools of Architecture, Art, and Drama, and the department of the History of Art, as well as the teaching and research needs of the Yale community beyond the visual arts. In addition, the Arts Library houses several prominent archival and special collections in Art and Architecture, Arts of the Book, and Drama, ranging from type specimens and woodblocks to theatrical archives to one of the world’s foremost collection of books on color.
POSITION DESCRIPTION
The Yale University Library welcomes applications and nominations for the 2012/13 Kress Fellowship in Art Librarianship. The Kress Fellowship is intended for a recent graduate from library school who wishes to pursue a career in art librarianship. This fellowship is made possible through the generosity of the Samuel H. Kress Foundation. Through this fellowship, the Kress Foundation seeks to achieve in the field of art librarianship what it has accomplished for art history and art conservation: ensuring the growth of the discipline by promoting the advancement of new professionals.
The Haas Family Arts Library at Yale serves a distinguished array of academic and museum programs, architects, artists and scholars. Kress Fellows have the opportunity to interact routinely with faculty, staff and students in distinguished Schools of Architecture, Art, and Drama; a nationally ranked department of the History of Art; and two outstanding university art museums, the Yale Center for British Art and the Yale University Art Gallery. They also have occasion to collaborate with colleagues from throughout the Yale University Library, including the Sterling Memorial Library, the Beinecke Rare Book and Manuscript Library, and the library and rare books department of the Yale Center for British Art. The rich professional and scholarly resources of New York City and Boston’s art libraries and museums are within two hours travel, providing still further opportunities for professional growth and professional contact with colleagues.
RESPONSIBILITIES
This year the focus of the Kress Fellowship will be on public services librarianship, specializing in architecture and design, which will include experience in reference services and library research education. During their tenure at Yale, Kress Fellows are expected to pursue a mutually agreed-upon project resulting in a publishable paper or a new library service (such as a webpage or research guide). Kress Fellows are also introduced to a broad spectrum of professional activities and may have the opportunity to perform collection development activities or assist with library-based exhibitions. Kress Fellows also participate in library planning committees and task forces and engage in campus, regional, and national professional organizations and other collaborative activities. Expected to be professionally active and represent the Library and the University in the academic, scholarly, and professional community. May be required to participate with disaster recovery efforts. May be assigned to work at West Campus location in West Haven, CT.
QUALIFICATIONS
Master’s degree from an ALA-accredited program for library and information science. Excellent analytical, organizational, management, customer service, and interpersonal skills. Ability to effectively build partnerships and promote the benefits of change in an academic culture that often values ambiguity, diversity of opinion, and historic precedent. Ability to communicate effectively through both oral and written expression. Ability to work both independently and collegially in a demanding and rapidly changing environment.
Preferred: Advanced degree and/or relevant experience in history of art, architecture or related arts disciplines. Experience with web design and development and electronic information resources. Experience with HTML and XML. Reading knowledge of two or more Western European languages.

Job Summary
The User Experience (UX) Department at the University of Michigan Library is seeking a talented and enthusiastic UX Designer. The ideal candidate will be able to create beautiful and usable interfaces, have a passion for understanding users, strong problem solving skills, and be invested in improving the library web experience. The UX Designer will focus on interface design but also take part in the full range of departmental duties, including user research/usability, accessibility, and web analytics. The UX Designer works in a collaborative team environment and participates in all stages of development – from concept to implementation.

Responsibilities
Interface Design 60%
- Create concept sketches, flow diagrams, wireframes, mockups, and html prototypes.
- Create complete visual designs and web-ready graphics.
- Conduct ongoing research into the development of new interface capabilities, enhancements, and user-centered design trends.
User Research 20%
- Design and conduct user research/usability studies using a variety of techniques (e.g. formal/informal usability testing, online surveys, card sorting, interviews, observations, focus groups, participatory design).
- Conduct regular web analytics to identify opportunities for improvement.
- Conduct web accessibility audits.
Project Management & Communication 20%
- Help scope, plan, and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Communicate project priorities and goals with project stakeholders, developers, and library-wide staff.
- Create and maintain project documentation.
- - Participate, as needed, on library committees. May provide advice or assistance to other units within the University Library regarding user research or interface issues.
Required Qualifications
- A Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field and training or experience in information technologies. An ALA-accredited Master’s degree in Library or Information Science, or an equivalent combination of a relevant advanced degree (e.g., Graphic Design, UxD, HCI) and experience is required for appointment as a librarian.
- Excellent interface design skills with a strong understanding of user-centered web design principles, typography, composition, and color theory. Experience creating complete interface designs and web-ready graphics.
- Experience creating concept sketches, flow diagrams, wire frames, and mock-ups.
- Proficiency with graphics software and prototyping software (e.g., Photoshop, Illustrator, Omnigraffle, Visio)
- Excellent organizational, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and contribute and collaborate effectively as a member of a team.
Desired Qualifications
- Experience designing and/or evaluating library systems or other complex websites.
- Experience designing and/or evaluating mobile interfaces.
- Experience with a variety of user research/usability methods.
- Familiarity with web accessibility standards and coding techniques.
- Experience with HTML/CSS and knowledge of more advanced front-end technologies.
- Experience with web analytics analysis.
- Knowledge or experience with SEO.

- Oversee the digitization of the collection’s slide images and integrate the image database
with the slide database. - Select and purchase necessary software, hardware.

- Oversee the access and storage of MFA theses and Art History capstone papers.
- Purchase teaching resource materials (DVDs, computer bubble testing sheets, reference books, etc.).
- Manage/maintain the computerized database, including performing scheduled
back-ups and routine file maintenance, coordinating software upgrades, communicating with the software
vendor regarding problems, customizations, and related issues. - Collaborate with Library staff to develop coordinated standards of collection development and image delivery.
- Work closely with Academic Computing and Networking Services (ACNS) and the College of Liberal Arts (CLA) technology staff.
- Supervise workstudy students, including their selection, hiring, training, scheduling, and oversight.
- Assist faculty, students, and visitors, in locating and using digital resources and traditional slides.
- Assist with digital repository of images from University Art Museum exhibitions, including uploading into ARTstor.
- Maintain all equipment in the Wold Resource Center and assist, when possible, with Visual Art classroom equipment and software needs.
- Develop policies and long-range planning for the collections, facilities, and services within the Department of Art, Morgan Library and the University Art Museum.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Proposed Salary: $35,000
Beginning Date: August, 2012
